After the dark dusk,
the darkened splendors of nature.
The past mistakes;
visible scars of an oppressing hand,
the melancholic lyricism of Nature that implores,
disrupts an apprehension towards her.
the imaginary souvenir of children's tales
paints her face with strange animal singularities.
The ghostly apparition of our reflection
projects us at the border of reality.
For me the poem tells a story of the border of reality. I have interpreted this as a physical place. While you are there dusk sets in and you can’t see anything. When you are accustomed to the new state you can see again and you see strange shapes you would never have expected. Strange shapes. strange materials and strange creatures.
For my research I took words of the poem. and looked at ways of interpreting those:
I took “strange animal signularities” for my materials research. “more Darkened splendors of nature” for my shapes and “Melancholic” for the atmosphere.
The collection shows creatures who wear different layers of cloth. Something new and unexpected appears. When you take off a layer, the last layers show little outfits based on the animalistic materials I researched.
I was interested in collaging the structure of different kinds of animal skin: soft fur, hard scales. tactile shells and fluid feathers. I wanted to create a fabric that shows an intresting create-ure.
